HELSINKI SHORT CUTS celebrates and promotes short films made by talented filmmakers from all over the world to highlight creative works of young and emerging filmmakers; Main aim of the festival is to increase interest in short film format, create new audiences for short films and organize unique cinema experiences for festival's visitors;
We are here to give a voice for international filmmakers and bring their creative short films to wide audiences in Finland because we believe in the power of short films stories;
The festival aims to become a developing international and European cinema platform for professional short films of all styles in Helsinki with biggest diversity of presented countries (around 30-40 countries) in the official programmings of the festival underlining its educational and multicultural dimensions.
The programmings of this socially engaged festival will touch different up-to-date social topics of educational character such as> • Rights of minorities • Education • Films directed by women • Gender equality • Human rights • Workers • Multiculturalism • Tolerance • Cultural dialogue • Migration • Emigration • Immigration • Etc.

The programming offers a glimpse into the contemporary European filmmaking. Opening event is organized under Patronage of the European Parliament. Special focus section ZOOM SPAIN 2023 is supported by Spanish Embassy in Helsinki. Whole event is organized with support from Tampere Municipality.

Next edition of HELSINKI SHORT CUTS is scheduled to take place in Helsinki at KINO ENGEL again in season 2018. More info about all final preparations, final dates and planned film programming will be available soon...

Official program of the festival is now released and available here. In total 66 contemporary short films from different countries ranging from Germany, Spain, Austria, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey to Iran will be presented during 2 festival days in Kino Engel (Sofiankatu 4) between the 9th and 10th of April 2011.

Entrance to all screenings is free.

HELSINKI SHORT CUTS 2011 is an international short film festival which will present more than 60 international short film productions of different styles and genres (fiction, animation, documentary and experiment) to Helsinki audiences in KINO ENGEL. The whole event is trying to enlarge the scale of short film presentations in Helsinki and Finland generally and bring the best of international short filmaking to the Helsinki audiences. The festival is also aiming to become an active multicultural and meeting platform for audiences and filmakers in Helsinki focused on presentations of interesting short film productions from all over the world.

All festivals' screenings will take place between the 9th and 10th of APRIL 2011 in art cinema Kino Engel www.cinemamondo.fi which is located at Sofiankatu street nr. 4 in the centre of Helsinki. Detailed festivals' programming with information on all short films will be available on our website in the beginning of March 2011.

All screenings are free of charge.

The festival is being organized in close cooperation with Goethe Institute in Helsinki, Austrian Embassy in Finland, City of Helsinki Cultural Office, Spanish Embassy in Finland and Kino Engel as an international film and networking festival initiative established by Ljubljana International Short Film Festival and DOKUBAZAAR documentary film festival from Ljubljana (SLO) connecting international filmakers with the audiences of Helsinki.
